Best Poker Movies Every Player Should Watch

Poker has always offered plenty of opportunities for unique and exciting stories.
A player needs just one lucky card to make his dreams come true. The audience holds its breath in anticipation. Can he possibly beat the odds and make his hand?

  1. Rounders (1998)
This film is a poker classic and remains one of the top films in the genre. Many observers believe that, without Chris moneymaker, there never would have been a ‘‘Poker boom’’. Rounders provided the most realistic portrait of the underground New York poker scene years before many of its participants ( including Poker Hall of Famers Erik Seidel and Dan Harrington) became famous.

  2. Molly’s Game (2017)
Major quotes: Molly says: ‘’ I was in a room with movie stars, directors, and business titans. They were going all-in, all the time.’’
The general principles of how Molly built a high-stakes game that brought together players from wealthy investment bankers to high-profile celebrities is a representation of how the power of social networks is put into practice in the real world.

  3. The Cincinnati Kid (1965)
This movie is another poker classic starring acting legends Steve McQueen and Ann-Margaret. A perfect example of a ‘‘young gun’’ versus and old pro, ‘’ The kid’’ takes on ‘The Man’’ in a classic game of Five Card Stud. With one card to come in the final hand, the two opponents engage in a staredown, with the interested spectators providing a running commentary. As The Man says at the end, ‘‘It’s about making the wrong move at the right time.’’

  4. Maverick (1994)
The final hand show here is an example of Hollywood exaggerating the quality of most poker hands, as well as disregarding several modern rules. However, the film received a favorable reviews and offered a humorous take on the life of a an old West cardsharp and con artist.
Major quotes: After a testy opponent takes issue with losing a big pot, Maverick says: I’m a gambler, not a gunfighter.’’

  1. The Card Counter
The movie starring Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, and Willem Dafoe follows a professional card counter and poker player. In this movie, poker and gambling become routine for Tell. Merely a means to pass the time and punish himself. The film offers a primarily realistic look at the world of poker at the mid-major level and even received permission to use the WSOP Circuit brand.

I wanted to comment on this post, but there is no option to. I’ve checked it again and again, but there is no “reply” or "comment " link to click on.

Even though Sylvester Stallone and Jamie Fox are in it. This is a movie that very few have ever heard of. It really opened my eyes to the possibly of being cheated playing live poker (especially in home or private games).

This is the opening scene. It shows many ways a dealer or player can cheat. Either by dealing specific cards or by switching cards.

The crazy part is, all of these cheats are 100% real. There are no camera tricks or video editing. They got with people that study card / magic tricks and had them do the best ones on video.
