Is Poker a Game of Luck or Skill? Let’s Settle This

Every time poker comes up in conversation, the same debate follows:

“It’s just gambling — pure luck.”
“No way. It’s all skill.”

So which is it?

On one hand, you can play perfectly and still lose because the river card crushes you. A beginner can sit down, catch great cards, and walk away a winner. That feels like luck.

But over time, the same names keep rising to the top. Players like Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey don’t just win once — they’ve built long-term careers around consistent results. That doesn’t happen in games that are purely chance.

So maybe the real question isn’t “Is it luck or skill?”
Maybe it’s “Over what timeframe?”

  • One hand? Probably luck.
  • One session? A mix.
  • Thousands of hands? Skill starts to dominate.

Poker seems to be a skill game played in a short-term environment of luck.

What do you think?

  • Have you ever won big while playing badly?
  • Or lost despite making all the right moves?
  • Should poker be legally classified as gambling or as a skill game?

Let’s hear your take

  • Skill
  • Luck

It’s a game of chance but it is definitely a skill game although everyone gets lucky from time to time even the big names it’s more of skill you got to be able to find a way to keep your chips and b catch some of the other players stack that’s where the skill sets you apart because as you know one lucky call from an opponent can knock you out

Oh yeah but if your talking about the jackpot sng here well then there's no skill needed there because no matter what even if you have them dominated it will throw the other player/s turn and a river for the house player or bot whatever y'all got going there every time bunch of BS that's why I don't hardly play poker here anymore
