First time I’ve seen this crown next to people’s chip count
This is a Chip Leader’s symbol. Chip leaders in each table may have a gold, silver or bronze crown next to their player tag that will indicate their position in the chip leader podium. This will make the game more exciting and encourage others to eliminate these players. This feature shows up once a player has multiplied by 3, the number of chips he/she started the tourney with, and updates at the end of each hand on each table.

I’m still a little confused because there wasn’t always someone at the table with the crown. The way you described it, shouldn’t there always be one person with a crown at the table? Also what do you mean by the ‘chip leader podium’ that affects the color of the crown?
It’s a new addition to highlight Chip Leaders, I guess that’s why you haven’t seen it before.
Since there can be gold, silver or bronze crown, each will be arranged accordingly on the podium.
